Lindsey had spent yet another day at the library, nominally studying for the bar, but mostly trying to find some sort of sign, however small, of the Senior Partners' influence in Darrow, or barring that, something he could use to make a way out and back to his dimension. The only part he'd been successful at was the legal studies.

He'd been in Darrow going on two months, and still wasn't any closer to getting out or uncovering the Senior Partners' plans for him. He had plans, damn it, and he damn well wanted to get back to 'em.

But since it didn't look like that was going to happen tonight, what he wanted was a drink. Several would be good. He could've just gone down to whatever bar matched his mood, but no. He didn't feel much like drinking alone tonight, which was strange enough on its own. And it wasn't a night for a random hook-up. Somehow he'd wound up with something close to a friend in this place, which was why he was hauling his ass down to Ocean View in search of a drinking buddy.

He knocked on the door, barely waiting for it to open before saying, "It'd be a helluva lot easier meetin' up for drinks if you used your damn phone, Jones."

Hook had plans that the city was interrupting as well but so far, his search to find a way back to Storybrooke or the Enchanted Forest had come up with nothing. It was getting frustrating and he refused to resign himself to being stuck in this world. He was almost desperate to start stalking hat shops.

When he came to the door, it was just in his breeches and shirt sleeves, his coat hung up and leather vest and foots in his bed room. A book on modern boats was under his arm and through the door, a bottle of wine could be seen on the living room table. While Neil had shown him how to use the TV, he found the entertainment rather boring actually.

"Pardon me, Mr. McDonald, but I don't even know what you mean." His smirk spoke otherwise. He knew which device the phone was, he just didn't have the patience to figure out how to use it. "Do come in, won't you?" he asked, painfully polite.

while Hook wasn't aware of the consequence of such an invitation, it wouldn't shock him. Magical creatures were strange that way. Everything related to magic had conditions.

"If it means the freedom of the sea, I'm willing to learn." Hook replied with a sardonic laugh. "The advancements that have been made in ships as been quite remarkable, even if I do still prefer the wind in my sails." He shut the door behind his friend and put the book down on a side table. "Can I get you anything?" He may be a pirate but he still had some manners.

"I think I like that option far more then what I have here." He said as he moved towards the kitchen to put a cork in the wine bottle and put it away. The refrigerator was a marvelous invention.

Hook chuckled at the mention of a bored pirate. "Exactly. Especially if they want to keep their women and their belongings." He finished in the kitchen and headed towards his bed room. "Not to mention, people expect a pirate to have a ship. I'm only living up to expectation."

He had just put his vest on and was buckling his belt when he spotted the phone he'd been given. Picking it up, he brought it out to Lindsay, still boot less. "Is this what you were yammering about?"

It's one of the reasons Hook liked Lindsay. They had quality verbal sparring and that was a surprisingly rare quality in a friend.

"Everyone I needed to speak to was on my ship. When one lives in close quarters, except on shore leave, one doesn't find the need to communicate long distances. And if the need arose, well...that what crew members are for." Poor Smee had usually been the only one Hook trusted to go on long journeys with messages. He wondered what happened to his first mate when the curse had been lifted.

He tossed the phone to Lindsay. "Alright, never say this pirate won't learn new tricks. Show me and I'll see if it's worth my time." The thing hadn't worked since the day after he got it so he failed to see the appeal. Was he supposed to get a new one every day?

Hook appreciated that, he really did. That was one of the reasons he like Lindsey. They could pick at each other...but then knew where to draw the line. And a mopey pirate was a violent pirate so this was for the best.

As Lindsey plugged in the phone, Hook paid attention. No, it didn't need a deliberate lesson but he still wanted to see what he was doing. "Ah. It's reusable. I'd wondered about that."

"Huh. Interesting." A reuseable power source. He'd learned a tiny bit about electricity while in Storybrooke but not enough. There had been other priorities at the time.

Lindsey dialing Hook understood, but not why he was calling himself. "You just called yourself from my phone. What purpose does that serve?" At an reply to how Hook knew what he as doing, he shrugged with a small smirk. "They had these phones in Storybrooke. I witnessed their use enough to get an idea of their purpose, just not any in depth knowledge into how they worked."

Hook saw what he was doing doing but he still wasn't quite sure what he was doing. He took his phone from Lindsey and chewed his bottom lip as he pressed the icon that looked like a phone. "Don't you need to call me to save the number?" It gave him a moment to figure out exactly how to do that.

Paying close attention, Hook followed along with what Lindsey was doing so as to hopefully be able to repeat it. "Aright. This device certainly likes to leave a trail of actions, doesn't it?" Who he called, who called him. He could see the duration and date as well. That was a little disturbing, to be monitored so closely.

But he did as instructed and recorded Lindsey's number for later use. With careful typing, and much use of the backspace after Lindsey pointed it out, it was labeled 'Pain-in-the-ass Lawyer'. "Alright, now what?"

Without saying anything, Hook fiddled with the phone and Lindsey's phone started ringing. "Well, I think I got the calling part down, mate." He smiled and ended the call, glad being a pirate had made him a very quick study. "Call me now."

Hook was looking down at his phone, waiting for the call, when suddenly one of the little pictures blinked and suddenly had a number one over it. "What did you do?"

Frowning sightly, Hook touched the icon as indicated and it showed a message from Lindsey. He touched it which opened the message so he could read it. "Fascinating. We went from sending notes, to sending voices to going back to sending notes. How circular." He slowly typed back I think so, mate

"It can also extend the conversation. What could take minutes might take hours while waiting for a response." Hook said just to be contrary but he did understand what Lindsey was saying.

He noticed the icon in the top corner was saying 50%. "I think I have enough power to take this lesson elsewhere. You said something about drinks?"
