[for Hook] get with the times

Lindsey had spent yet another day at the library, nominally studying for the bar, but mostly trying to find some sort of sign, however small, of the Senior Partners' influence in Darrow, or barring that, something he could use to make a way out and back to his dimension. The only part he'd been successful at was the legal studies.
He'd been in Darrow going on two months, and still wasn't any closer to getting out or uncovering the Senior Partners' plans for him. He had plans, damn it, and he damn well wanted to get back to 'em.
But since it didn't look like that was going to happen tonight, what he wanted was a drink. Several would be good. He could've just gone down to whatever bar matched his mood, but no. He didn't feel much like drinking alone tonight, which was strange enough on its own. And it wasn't a night for a random hook-up. Somehow he'd wound up with something close to a friend in this place, which was why he was hauling his ass down to Ocean View in search of a drinking buddy.
He knocked on the door, barely waiting for it to open before saying, "It'd be a helluva lot easier meetin' up for drinks if you used your damn phone, Jones."

A book on modern boats was under his arm and through the door, a bottle of wine could be seen on the living room table. While Neil had shown him how to use the TV, he found the entertainment rather boring actually.
"Pardon me, Mr. McDonald, but I don't even know what you mean." His smirk spoke otherwise. He knew which device the phone was, he just didn't have the patience to figure out how to use it. "Do come in, won't you?" he asked, painfully polite.

"The advancements that have been made in ships as been quite remarkable, even if I do still prefer the wind in my sails." He shut the door behind his friend and put the book down on a side table. "Can I get you anything?" He may be a pirate but he still had some manners.

He might not have been practicing since he left LA, but he'd had other things occupying his time and energy. Stuck here, where it seemed like the law was going to be the only thing with an end point, it chafed that he had to take the bar again and couldn't practice until he got his results.
"A bored pirate's a dangerous thing. Probably better for everybody if you've got something to do."

He finished in the kitchen and headed towards his bed room. "Not to mention, people expect a pirate to have a ship. I'm only living up to expectation."
He had just put his vest on and was buckling his belt when he spotted the phone he'd been given. Picking it up, he brought it out to Lindsay, still boot less. "Is this what you were yammering about?"

Date: 2014-05-13 11:02 pm (UTC)Lindsey remembered before cell phones had even been a thing - in fact, when he was a kid, they didn't have a phone at all, unlike most families he knew - but when he'd been with Wolfram & Hart, he couldn't live without his. And the ones in Darrow were even better.
"It's not a boat motor, but it could be just as useful learning how to use it if you're gonna be stuck here with the rest of us."

And if the need arose, well...that what crew members are for." Poor Smee had usually been the only one Hook trusted to go on long journeys with messages. He wondered what happened to his first mate when the curse had been lifted.
He tossed the phone to Lindsay. "Alright, never say this pirate won't learn new tricks. Show me and I'll see if it's worth my time." The thing hadn't worked since the day after he got it so he failed to see the appeal. Was he supposed to get a new one every day?

Date: 2014-05-18 04:08 am (UTC)He wasn't surprised when pushing the power button had no effect. "First step: we need to eat; phones need to recharge. There should've been a cord, metal prongs on one end to plug into a wall outlet." Looking around the room, he saw the cord in question tossed aside, and he plugged the phone in without making a deliberate lesson of it. Tab A into Slot B wasn't that hard to figure out.

Date: 2014-05-20 06:35 am (UTC)As Lindsey plugged in the phone, Hook paid attention. No, it didn't need a deliberate lesson but he still wanted to see what he was doing. "Ah. It's reusable. I'd wondered about that."

Date: 2014-05-20 09:35 pm (UTC)While he had the phone on and his hand, he went ahead and used it to dial his number so he could put Killian's number into his contacts. His phone rang, and he pulled it from a pocket to do so.

At an reply to how Hook knew what he as doing, he shrugged with a small smirk. "They had these phones in Storybrooke. I witnessed their use enough to get an idea of their purpose, just not any in depth knowledge into how they worked."
